چکیده

Purpose: To investigate ocular asymmetry status 5 years after cranioplasty in children with unilateral coronal craniosynostosis. Methods: The medical records of 41 who underwent at a mean age 11.7 months were retrospectively reviewed. cranial vault index (CVAI) and the amount head tilt measured on images obtained before cranioplasty. Presence anisometropia, aniso-astigmatism, amblyopia, strabismus was evaluated 6.8 years. Correlations among CVAI, direction synostotic suture asymmetries analyzed. Results: Before cranioplasty, CVAI 4.5%; 31 patients (75.6%) exhibited tilting, which contralateral to site 29 these patients. At 5.6 anisometropia ≥ 1.00 diopters spherical equivalent present 9 (22.0%) aniso-astigmatism 10 (24.4%). Amblyopia 15 (36.6%); eye more frequently affected, anisometropic amblyopia most common subtype. Strabismus 28 (68.3%); exodeviation vertical deviation subtypes. non-dominant ipsilateral 12 13 (92.3%) simulated superior oblique palsy 7 (70.0%) dissociated deviation. In 5%, significantly than other (<i>p</i> = 0.04), but we found no relationship between any type high CVAI.Conclusions: Ocular including observed even successful treatment for craniosynostosis, emphasizing need continuous ophthalmic follow-up.

Intracranial Volume in 15 Children with Bilateral Coronal Craniosynostosis

BACKGROUND Intracranial volume (ICV) growth in patients with bilateral coronal craniosynostosis (BCS) is not well described. It is therefore important to evaluate the consequences of cranial surgery in children with this condition. The aim of the present study was to evaluate ICVs in patients operated on for BCS. METHODS A consecutive series of patients with BCS were operated on using spring-...

Unilateral and bilateral expression of a quantitative trait: asymmetry and symmetry in coronal craniosynostosis.

Bilateral symmetry in vertebrates is imperfect and mild asymmetries are found in normal growth and development. However, abnormal development is often characterized by strong asymmetries. Coronal craniosynostosis, defined here as consisting of premature suture closure and a characteristic skull shape, is a complex trait. The premature fusion of the coronal suture can occur unilaterally associat...

Visual Acuity Before and After Occlusion Therapy in Children and Adolescents (Aged 5-13 years) Amblyopia

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of occlusion therapy on visual acuity in children and adolescents (aged 5-13 years) with amblyopia. Methods: This experimental study followed a pretest-posttest design. Totally, 72 people with amblyopic eyes (visual acuity between 20/100 and 20/25) were selected through convenient sampling. The visual acuity was assessed at 1, 3, and 6 months after starting occlu...
